Collabs
Hi! Thank you for your interest in collaborating and partnering with Cyclista Zine! We are open to invitations and pitches all year round! CZ is a solo team, so please be patient with me if I take a while to get to you. Here are a few things to know when partnering with Cyclista Zine:
WHY “COLLAB?” The word “submit” grates against who we are and what we stand for. It feels inauthentic and violent to continue to use this word.
We want to instead offer that this is a process of collaboration — an invitation into relationship, an invitation to work together, an invitation to experience your art with you, an invitation into share space and develop each zine together.
We may accept collab as a way to invite you to work with us. We may accept or decline this invitation to collab. Regardless, we are grateful. It is truly an honor to receive an invitation. So we want to simply pause and thank you for considering our press. Now on to the details.
1) Please be sure to read our zine manifesto and become familiar with our tone and style.
2) Please read through our call for collaboration themes. While we are open to accepting unsolicited collabs outside of calls we also need them to align with our values and mission.
3) We’re looking for experienced writers, photographers, poets, advocates, and artists. You will need to include a short bio, image of yourself on your bike, and any links of your social media handles, and/or website in the invite.
4) Works shared by and about BIPOC, WTF, people with disabilities, and other underrepresented communities are especially welcome and will be given priority in zine and online features.
5) We are starting to move toward a model of publishing on-line in addition to our bi-annual print zines, don’t be shy to suggest if you’d like this online or as a zine feature.
6) I will be considering all collaborations carefully, and may not able to respond to every collab query. If there is an interest in your collab or pitch, allow me to get back to you within six weeks. If you do not hear from me, please know that I appreciate you thinking of CZ and wish you the best of luck with your work.
To share your pitch or article, please review our unofficial guidelines below.
For written collaborations: We are looking for exceptionally written and untold stories, poems, and personal essays, critical essays, and “how to” pieces within our themes of how it represents the BIPOC +WTF community. For poems, writers may submit one to five previously unpublished poems of no more than 100 lines each. Attach two high resolution and compelling images to accompany. We will look to publish pieces around 500 - 1500. These should be no more than five min reads.
For Photo and Art collaborations: We are looking for original photography and artwork that embodies our themes of intersectional feminism and inclusivity, ideally a collection that delights readers with two-four full page pieces. Attach two high resolution and compelling images to accompany.
Compensation: All accepted material will be compensated with cash, one digital and physical copy of the zine (for zine contributors), and an IG post dedicated to your contribution. Compensation offers will be reviewed upon accepted collabs.
